Dr. Tran Le Giang, lecturer from the Faculty of the School of Biomedical Engineering at VNUHCM-International University, will participate in the USAID Partnership for Higher Education Reform’s Visiting Scholar Program (VSP) at the Catholic University of America from September to October 2024.
With a research focus on medical equipment design and biosignal processing technique, Dr. Giang investigates the relationship between the rehabilitation exercises and the activation of the muscle through electromyography (EMG) signals. By leveraging the understanding of the muscle activities, Dr. Giang aims to create a more intuitive and natural interface for controlling the rehabilitation exercise.
One of the key goals of Dr. Giang’s project is to facilitate the transfer of rehabilitation and signal processing technology from the United States to Vietnam. “I hope to address the variations in technological infrastructure and conditions by fine-tuning the technology through simplifications and experimental adjustments to ensure it aligns with the Vietnamese context” – said Dr. Giang. Given the growing demand for effective rehabilitation solutions in Vietnam, the development of an optimized and personalized treatment promises to improve patient outcomes, enhance quality of life, and bring positive impacts to our society.
During his term, Dr. Giang plans to publish his findings in a WoS/Scopus journal. His research endeavors are expected to foster collaboration between the School of Biomedical Engineering at International University and U.S. research groups, advancing Vietnam’s research and innovation landscape in biomedical engineering..
The Visiting Scholar Program (VSP) under the USAID Partnership for Higher Education Reform project supports scholars from (1) Vietnam National University, (2) the University of Danang, and (3) Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City. The goal is to improve the research and teaching capacity of scholars across Vietnam while expanding partnerships with higher education institutions in the United States. In the Summer and Fall of 2024, the VSP will send a total of 21 scholars from Vietnam’s three major public university systems to host institutions in the United States for academic research and exchange experiences.
