Support for Reforming Research Compliance at VNUHCM March 2024

From March 25–28, 2024, under the guidance of Dr. John Baumann, Associate Vice President for Research Compliance at Indiana University (USA), the USAID Partnership for Higher Education Reform project held a series of technical support consultations for the development of research compliance practices at Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM) and its member institutions.

These technical support sessions began centrally at VNUHCM , and progressed to individualized support to the VNUHCM member institutions.

University representatives had in-depth discussions with the project expert to revise the research compliance governance documents at each university. These included practices related to:

  • Research code of conduct
  • Research integrity regulations
  • Research ethics regulations
  • Human subjects regulations
  • Medical ethics regulations
  • Animal subjects regulations

The topic of incentivizing research in postgraduate education was also discussed in depth.

The VNUHCM task team agreed to hold a subsequent meeting  to consolidate the outcomes of these technical support sessions and work on future plans.

On March 28, the project expert provided a training program on research compliance with around 50 delegates, including leaders of member universities, relevant departments and offices, and participants from VNUHCM member universities. Participants learned about research compliance practices at Indiana University and around the world and discussed practical questions arising from their research and research management experiences.
