On January 19, 2024, the USAID Partnership for Higher Education Reform project and VNU – University of Science (VNU-HUS) organized the Workshop to Support Reform of the Annual Staff Evaluation System at VNU – University of Science. The event attracted 35 university leaders and department heads at VNU-HUS and other VNU member universities. The workshop aimed to provide an overview, share experiences and discuss the staff evaluation process with a focus on evaluating managers and administrative staff.
Prof. Vu Van Yem from Hanoi University of Science and Technology – the project’s expert on Key Performance Indicators in Human Resources (HR-KPI) – shared his experience in developing KPI sets to evaluate the work of university managers and staff. He also provided an analysis of the functions and tasks of various business units and proposed recommendations to develop KPI sets at VNU-HUS. Three Vice Rectors – Professor Le Thanh Son, Associate Professor Ngac An Bang and Associate Professor Tran Quoc Binh – facilitated the discussions and highlighted the need for contextualizing KPI sets for each university. Additionally, the heads of the relevant departments and offices at VNU-HUS, – including Academic Affairs, Planning-Finance, and Organization, Personnel & Administration – also shared their comments and questions on the development and implementation of reforms to the existing staff evaluation system.
VNU-HUS leadership emphasized the importance of PHER support and reaffirmed their commitment to collaborating with PHER experts to help them develop specialized KPI sets for the performance evaluations of university managers and staff.
