On September 28, 2023, the USAID Partnership for Higher Education Reform project organized a training workshop on the Integration of gender as an essential dimension of research not only to raise awareness, but also to provide concrete ways to integrate the treatment of gender issues into research.
The hybrid workshop, held on the Zoom platform and in person in Hanoi, engaged the participation of lecturers and researchers from Vietnam International Academic Network (VIAN) at Vietnam National University Hanoi.
The workshop focused on introducing and clarifying some basic concepts of gender, organizing discussions on integrating gender into research methods. Through the workshop, the participants developed a deeper understanding of the key concepts of gender and sex, gender roles, gender needs, gender stereotypes, gender equality and equity among others. In addition, participants engaged in in-depth discussions on issues related to gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Facilitators and participants alike proposed ideas about integrating gender dimensions in research. The lead lecturer introduced ideas for conducting gender-specific and gender-sensitive research, particularly in the proposal phase so that these elements emerge in the conduct of scholarly research and the publication of findings.
