To help ensure that strong pedagogical practices are employed by professors across the three partner universities in Vietnam, USAID Partnership for Higher Education Reform project is supporting delivery of the highly interactive course called Teaching for Student Success: An Evidence-Based Approach course (TSS).
The goal is to train hundreds of university faculty each year; in order to achieve this high volume it is first necessary to build a core of faculty leaders who can instruct TSS across Vietnam. To meet this goal, a Training of Trainers (ToT) program on TSS was developed for faculty leaders in Vietnam who will support the local delivery of TSS.
On May 19, 2023 the project hosted a webinar with the participation of 70 faculty (from 24 member universities and the three partner universities) who will serve as facilitators and instructors of TSS for hundreds of their faculty colleagues across Vietnam. From May 31 to June 9, 2023, the project organized in-person training in Hanoi, Danang, and Ho Chi Minh City. Pedagogy expert Dr. Rebecca Torstrick from Indiana University (IU) led the series of onsite in-person training and mentoring activities.
Sixty participants who completed the program received certificates for the Foundational Pathway issued by Indiana University to become the champions of high-quality instruction at their institutions and will help grow a much broader community of faculty in trained in high-impact teaching techniques proven to enhance student learning outcomes for in-person, hybrid, and digital instruction.
