On July 25-26, 2022 USAID’s Five-Year Partnership for Higher Education Reform project held its kick-off conference in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The project’s goals are to develop effective models, offer innovative approaches, and strengthen partnerships to help Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam National University Hanoi and the University of Da Nang become more independent, sustainable, and quality higher education institutions.
The Summer Conference 2022 aimed to increase the project’s presence and build a strong community of higher education experts. Experts from Indiana University and other international universities met with leaders, administrators, and experts from Vietnamese universities to discuss issues such as the Role of Public Universities in the 21st century, Finance and Autonomy of Universities, as well as Shared Governance and Digital Transformation.
The next step was a strong start with the development of seven Vietnam-International Academic Networks (VIANs). The project hopes that the Summer Conference will become an annual international academic conference that brings together professors from the United States and other countries to collaborate with three partner universities in Vietnam.
