Following an initial consultation on January 19, 2024, the USAID Partnership for Higher Education Reform project conducted a follow-on technical consultations for 15 leaders and staff responsible for human resources management reforms at Vietnam National University (VNUHN) and its member institutions on March 15, 2024. The focus of the workshops was on revisions to key performance indicators (KPIs) to be used as the basis for future annual faculty and staff evaluations.
The one-day training for VNUHN was led by the project’s human resources expert, Professor Vu Van Yem, who shared innovations on how KPIs are evolving in their application to annual performance reviews of faculty and staff. Dr. Vu and his team worked with VNU human resources professionals to propose approaches to revising theKPI sets for annual faculty and staff evaluations.
Delegates engaged in open discussions related to the application of KPIs for staff evaluation and salary adjustment practices related to performance. The technical support session created opportunities for VNU human resources professionals to consult with experts as they take steps toward adopting new approaches to faculty and staff annual performance evaluation. VNUHN representatives and the project expert team agreed to complete planning by May 2024 and to pilot revised KPI sets with five VNU institutions in July 2024.
With project support, it is expected that human resource management will be strengthened not only at VNUHN, but also at Vietnam National University-HCMC and the University of Danang.
