USAID’s Partnership for Higher Education Reform (PHER) project is hosting its kick-off conference to transform three leading universities into modern knowledge institutions in Vietnamese society.
On July 25-26, USAID’s five-year Partnership for Higher Education Reform (PHER) project, implemented by Indiana University (IU), will hold its kick-off conference in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The goal of the US$14. 2 million partnership is to help the Vietnam National University – Hanoi, the Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh, and the University of Danang become more independent and sustainable, and quality higher education institutions.
Highly qualified experts from IU will meet with leaders, administrators and experts from the three Vietnamese universities to develop joint implementation strategies on how to transform the three universities into modern knowledge institutions in Vietnamese society by strengthening their governance and management systems and practices. The large-scale event will also be attended by dignitaries from Vietnamese ministries and other key higher education stakeholders.
The PHER’s strategy centers around four key pillars: Governance, Teaching and Learning, Research and Innovation, and University-Industry Linkages. In the Governance Pillar, PHER will provide leadership development opportunities for university leaders and policy makers in the broad area of higher-education governance. The Teaching and Learning Pillar focuses on building institutional capacity for the three Vietnamese partner universities in teaching and learning to improve academic quality and relevance. In the Research and Innovation Pillar, PHER will facilitate inter-institutional research collaborations, doctoral training, and exposure to current trends in research methodology. Through the University-Industry Linkages Pillar, PHER will support the three universities to create incentives and develop guidelines on university outreach to build and sustain prosperous partnerships between universities and the private sector.
The PHER strives to achieve sustainable, transferable and systematic institutional (policy) changes at the three Vietnamese universities as a model and reference framework for the Vietnamese higher education system in general.
